National Night Out:--America's Night Out Against Crime!!!

The National Association of Town Watch (NATW) has announced that the "26th Annual National Night Out" (NNO) program will culminate on Tuesday evening, August 4, 2009.

National Night Out, a year-long community building campaign, is designed to: (1) Heighten crime prevention awareness; (2) Generate support for, and participation in, local anti-crime programs; (3) Strengthen neighborhood spirit and police-community partnerships; and (4) Send a clear message to criminals letting them know that neighborhoods are organized and actively fighting back against crime.

Along with traditional outside lights and front porch vigils, most cities and towns now celebrate National Night Out with a variety of special citywide and neighborhood events such as block parties, cookouts, parades, festivals, visits from local law enforcement officers, safety fairs and even special events and activities just for kids and young adults.

NNO 2008 involved 37 million people (including yours truly), in 15,449 communities from all 50 states, U.S. territories, Canadian cities, and military bases worldwide. National Night Out 2009 is expected to be the largest ever! NNO is sponsored by the National Association of Town Watch (NATW) in partnership with Target.
